5 Home Maintenance Tips For Busy Homeowners

Home maintenance is crucial but can be a bit challenging to do when you are a busy homeowner. However, postponing home maintenance checks could result in costly repairs and a devalued house. This has led many busy homeowners to wonder how to fit these maintenance checks into their busy routines. Fortunately, there are a few simple ways you can do this. Read on to learn how.

Create a maintenance schedule

Not knowing where to begin is one of the most challenging aspects of home maintenance. For example, it can be perplexing if you can’t recall the last time you cleaned the carpet or how often it needs to be cleaned. This would also mean missing out on key inspections and identifying potential and existing damages. Fortunately, this can be resolved by creating a maintenance schedule. By creating a schedule, you ensure you carry out various home maintenance tasks one at a time. You can schedule days for daily tasks, inspections, deep cleaning, or renovations. So, with your schedule, you can be sure to put in daily activities such as cleaning your kitchen, weekly tasks such as gardening, or monthly tasks such as conducting inspections or deep cleaning. You can set reminders on your phone using task apps or your calendar to help you stick to your schedule.

Ensure you perform preventive maintenance

You should not only schedule duties, but you should also schedule preventative maintenance days to save money and time in the long run. Changing your filters, replacing smoke detector batteries, and simply double-checking that everything on your appliances is in working order can help prevent severe problems down the line if ignored. It’s a lot easier if you keep up with them rather than merely inspecting them every few years (which may not happen if you don’t take care of them promptly).

Work with professionals

Another home maintenance strategy you can consider implementing as a busy homeowner is relying on professionals. The truth is, due to your busy schedule, you may not be able to conduct proper inspections. You may also not be equipped with the right skills or have the time to repair various damages or make necessary installments. By hiring professionals, you ensure that various home maintenance tasks are completed correctly. For example, a plumber will ensure that your plumbing system is in perfect condition, fix any issues, or implement necessary preventive measures. Hiring professionals would also prevent future expensive damage.

Get the children involved

Some home maintenance activities can make for great family chores and help your children develop vital life skills. For example, cleaning and learning to tend the lawn can help your children gain independence and self-esteem. Giving your children chores is both excellent parenting and a sensible strategy to lessen your load.

Taking on one project at a time is the best way to go

When you consider all of the large and small maintenance activities that must be completed throughout the year, it’s easy to become overwhelmed. Instead of juggling many chores, try to focus on one project or one space at a time to make it more manageable and reduce interruption.

Maintenance of the HVAC system, including changing air filters, is also necessary because it affects the house’s air quality. Mold, dust, dirt, and debris accumulated in your system can seriously pollute the air you breathe inside the house. Ignoring it endangers the entire family of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Great tips! Preventive maintenance is something I recommend always to my clients. As a roofer, I always recommend to clean gutters regularly and get the roof inspected after a heavy snowfall to get the small damages repaired in time and without spending too much.
