A Week With Us 15th October-28th October 2018

Welcome to A Week With Us….A weekly update and insight to a week in the lives of our family of 7.

This week is a little different, I am updating from the last fortnight. I’m sure you will understand how life gets in the way. Especially with having a family, the days seem to fly by. There isn’t enough hours in the day!

So what have we been up to over the last 2 weeks?

We went to visit our local Sixth Form College as with Cameron, as he is in the final year of secondary school. I can’t believe that we are at a point in visiting colleges! The years really do fly by.

Harvey seems to have improved at school ever since I went in and spoke to the staff as I felt that he was getting punished for being him. Which, it worked out that I was right. Teachers weren’t aware, despite him having a One Plan, that Harvey has ‘additional needs’ and the behaviours that were presenting in class weren’t because he was being disobedient or ignorant. It was linked to his sensory needs! Fingers crossed that things will carry on improving and Harvey will now be understood.

On the downside, the poor kids bike that he got stolen from our back garden. Gutted doesn’t even describe how upset Harvey was, it was his pride and joy.

McKenzie has been struggling, but his school has hired someone to come in and do some assessments on him to see if we can work out what is going on with our boy. Again, he is misunderstood. It really gets to me, people think that because he looks like a ‘typical’ child there is nothing ‘different’ about him. One day we will have answers.

Caelan has seen the paediatrician regarding his weight. Despite only gaining 600g in 3 months the paediatrician has discharged him as there is nothing medically wrong with him. We are to continue to go to the dietician and follow their advice. Our GP, put the referral request to CAMHS from the dietician, low and behold we can’t even get into the front door of CAMHS. The system is a shambles, but thats for another post.

Cohen has been typically Cohen. We have applied for his school place for September 2019. I can’t believe my baby is starting school! I’ve got so many mixed emotions around the whole situation. This is a massive milestone for myself as a mother, as the last time I got to this point, Harvey was starting school and I was pregnant with Mckenzie. I had a month without any of my boys at home, before Mckenzie came along. It’s scary! We been working on school readiness with Cohen as he doesn’t attend nursery.

As Mckenzie is struggling to get out and about without having a ‘buzzy head’. We have made the decision to try and go out as a family every week or every fortnight. As Mckenzie ‘crashes’ mainly on a Saturday, we’ve decided to let him come down from the past week, then to go out on a Sunday. We need to teach him that, even though he might not feel too good, he still needs to make an effort and try.

Last weekend, as a family we have been to Thorp Perrow to attend their Halloween Trail. I honestly don’t know why we hadn’t been there before! It was like and Autumn Wonderland! My boys loved following the trail and finding all the clues. We will definitely be back!

This weekend, Mckenzie and Caelan went to Halloween camp with Beavers. It was Mckenzies 3rd time and Caelan’s first time. They had such a good time.

This weekend, my step daughter, sister in law and niece came down from Scotland to visit. We didn’t do a lot, but it’s just nice to catch up and be in each others company. We are all making up for lost time and building relationships.

My boys love having their sister, aunty and cousin in their lives again! So, do i, family is everything to me so for my boys to know theirs was important to me.

Come back next week for our Half Term Adventures

It sounds like a very full couple of weeks – lovely that you also got to spend some time with some extra special family members – that’s always really special.
