Welcome to A Week with us….A weekly update and insight to a week in the lives of our family of 7.
This week has been glorious! I think I dare say that Summer is here! We have been making the most of the sun while we can.
This week has been so busy.
On Monday after we finished work we decided to take a visit to the river and park. I have many fond memories of my Dad taking me there as a child. It felt so good to share the experience with my boys.
Harvey has been a mentor for the new year 7’s transition days. He was given a role of responsibility by having to guide a form around the school to their lessons. I am so proud of him, as he has such a hard time at school.
It has also been Harveys parents evening, where, if i’m honest, didn’t as well as it could’ve done. But we have had a little chat and a discussion with the SENCO and we have put together a plan to support Harvey in him classes.
It really gets to me how teachers can be so judgemental and misunderstanding. Especially as Harvey is on the schools SEN register, due to poor working memory, processing disorder and sensory issues. All through his school life he has been branded the ‘naughty boy’. Instead of realising and recognising that challenging behaviour only displays when there is something underlying going on, teachers seem to pull Harvey down and his confidence at school is pretty low.
But, I am on the case to make sure that Harvey will have a bright future. I know that he doesn’t fit into the box of the ‘typical’ pupil. But we will get the best out of him and for him.
Cameron has been on his work experience. I really can’t believe it! He has had a real insight into the life of working 9-5. To be fair, he handled it very well.
PIN FOR LATER
This weekend, Cameron has taken part in his Duke Of Edinburgh Silver expedition. I can’t wait to hear all about it when he gets back on Monday.
Mckenzie and Caelan both had their ‘moving up’ days at school, where the meet their new class teacher for September. Caelan really seems to have enjoyed it as all he has done is draw pictures for his new teacher.
Mckenzie has struggled with the transition. He will be going into Junior school in September. He will have a new routine in place and a different part of the school to go in to. Mckenzie is already showing massive anxiety around this. I think one job on my to do list for next week is to contact SENCO and discuss his transitions as it is the same every year. My poor boy is so unsettled in himself. He was doing so well too.
This weekend we attended my cousins wedding. Which was amazing as I love to see my family. It’s not very often we all see each other. But when we do, it’s as if we haven’t been apart.
Matthew and I managed to go back to the evening do, childfree! I know, it’s unheard of, right?! It felt really good to get all dolled up and let my hair down. It doesn’t happen very often, so we made the most of it! My feet were bloody killing by the end of the night.
Today (Sunday) we decided to stay at home, take advantage of the weather and have a BBQ in the garden. Mckenzie really wouldn’t have been able to cope with another day out. So I went and bought BBQ food and (another) paddling pool. We must go through 2 or 3 a year! It was great to see my boys playing together and having fun in the sun.
Thanks for reading and I hope you come back for another WEEK WITH US
