So you’ve chosen carpet as your floor covering for your home. But you walk into the carpet showroom and are bombarded with colours, textures, pile depth and styles. Who knew there was so much to consider when wanting to choose the right carpet for your home?!
Here are some things to take into consideration.
Where Is The Carpet Going To Go?
First thing to consider is where in the house is your carpet going to go? Take into consideration the footfall in the room you’re wanting to put carpet down in.
For areas like the stairs and hallways where traffic is heavy and rooms which are used with more footfall in the room the thicker and more dense carpet, you will need to consider. Consider shorter fibres in darker colours.
Choose more luxurious and softer carpets in lighter shades for areas of less traffic, such as the bedroom.
Underlay
Choosing underlay is just as important as choosing the carpet itself. Underlay not only acts as a cushioning and shock absorber under the carpet. Underlay can also provide a factor of insulation against moisture, sound and heat. Helping to maintain the life and resilience of your carpet.

Maintainance
When choosing the right carpet for your home, you need to take into consideration the maintenance needed to keep the carpet clean and up to the standard you bought it. Especially if you have pets and/or children.
Will your current hoover do the job or will you need to upgrade?
What products can you use on your choice of carpet?
Will you need to have them professionally cleaned or can you clean them yourself with a carpet cleaner or carpet shampoo?
Still Not Sure Which Is The Right Carpet To Choose?
With all the above to consider, it is still tough to choose the right carpet. Many retailers will allow you to borrow samples of carpet to allow you take home. The benefits of this is that you can match the colours to your decor and get a feel for the texture of the carpet in your own home.
