There are hundreds of carpet cleaning methods, some more effective than others. However, if you do not want to ruin your carpet, you have to know which of them are safe for your flooring. In this article, we will give you some basic tips that will make domestic carpet cleaning more pleasant and efficient.

The main cleaning tool at home is a vacuum cleaner. It removes most of the dirt, sand, dust and debris that gets on your carpet. Do not knock out the carpet, because the fibres are damaged. In this case, you still will not knock out all the dust, it immediately settles back.

The most important thing in carpet cleaning is doing it regularly. The more often people walk on the carpet, the more often they need to clean it. If the carpet is placed in the hall, then you have to vacuum it several times a week, if it is in the guest room, then vacuuming it once a week will be enough. Regular maintenance prolongs the life of your carpet.

Vacuum the new carpet more often. New carpets often have a certain amount of “fluff” that comes out of the carpet. They are simply loose fibres that are created during the weaving process. After two to three months of regular cleaning, the “fluff” will disappear. To make the process go faster, each time vacuum first along the nap, and then against the nap.

For woven carpets, you do not need to use a carpet brush as it is destructive for them. Use a hard floor brush.

There are a few more secrets on how to make the carpet look new and beautiful for a long time:

It is advisable to turn the carpet 180 degrees once a year. Then the impact from light rays, the weight of furniture and “treading paths” will be evenly distributed. This will literally double the life of the carpet.

If you have a stretched thread on the carpet, you need to carefully cut it with scissors as close to the base of the carpet as possible. Do not pull out! The rug is a very complex woven product and pulling out the thread can cause great damage by damaging the structure of the rug.

You can put a special underlay under the carpet, it prevents the carpet from sliding over the surface, softens and protects the carpet base from rubbing of the hard floor when walking. The fibres on the back of the carpet wear much less and the carpet looks new for a long time.

Carpet Care Depends on the Material of the Carpet

Besides these advices, you should know that carpet care may vary depending on the material of the carpet.

Natural wool is afraid of temperature changes, so it is undesirable to lay such carpets on heated floors and at the entrance. This material reacts to contact with chemicals and burns out in the sun. Wool has the property of absorbing dirt, so it is advisable to remove stains as soon as possible.

It is not recommended to vacuum woollen carpets more than 1-2 times a month, as poorly dried carpets can become mouldy and change their size.

Cotton has a high moisture absorption, therefore it is not suitable for rooms with high humidity.

Polypropylene coatings can be cleaned with various detergents that do not contain chlorine and solvents, they do not absorb moisture at all and dirt does not penetrate into their structure. However, for polypropylene, contamination with oily substances (such as cake cream or mayonnaise) is dangerous. In case you stain the carpet with such an oily product, immediately contact a provider of professional carpet cleaning services.

Polyamide fibre is dirt-repellent, practically does not absorb moisture, and therefore can be used even in damp rooms. Thanks to its elasticity, it recovers after being crushed under furniture, very wear-resistant and antistatic. However, it is not very UV resistant.

Polyester is resistant to dirt, any non-greasy stains can be easily removed from it. Such a coating is more wear-resistant than polypropylene, but it accumulates static electricity and poorly restores shape in any deformation.

Deep carpet cleaning is essential for keeping your carpet in top condition. Use carpet cleaning services once or twice a year. Experts use the right equipment and figure out which gentle products are best for cleaning different types of carpets.
