We are a massive fan of Learning Resources products here. So, when we were asked to review Learning Resources Stems we jumped at the chance.
As a mum and childminder, I am always on the look out for toys and activities that don’t involve screen time and that are hands on and encourage practical learning.
First Impressions

Stems are intriguing pieces of flexible, attractive, bright coloured plastic that will develop key learning skills as children zip them together, including:
Problem Solving
Fine Motor Skills
Hand-Eye Coordination
Scientific Curiosity
Watching My Boys Play With Learning Resources Stems
My boys got stuck right in from the start. Firstly, trying to work out how to attach the pieces together.
Once I showed them the instructions and ideas leaflet that comes with the Learning Resources STEMS, my boys ‘can do attitude’ shone through. They were determined to build the designs shown. See Caelan above with his model of a person.
I also found these videos on YouTube of designs to build
The Final Verdict
We love anything that gets my boys minds and hands working. Learning Resources STEMS certainly do just that. Encourage STEM learning through creative construction with Stems, the flexible 3D maker toy!
These can be a little fiddly and children do need a good attention span and patience to finish a project.
Learning Resources Stems are suitable for 5 years plus, but I let my 4 year old play with too and even though he couldn’t make anything from the instructions, he still managed to fit the Stems together.
Overall, I think that these are going to be a firm favourite in our house.
They’re even compact enough to slip a few into a small bag to take on journeys or to take to a restaurant.
