Countless people have found themselves in unrewarding careers that they’d love to leave. They can’t, however, as they mightn’t have the necessary skills to switch careers. That could lead to them resigning themselves to working a nine to five that they don’t like.
If you’ve found yourself in this position, then you mightn’t need to stay in the same job. You could get an apprenticeship and re-skill. While you could assume that apprenticeships are restricted to plumbing, carpentry, and other fields, you’d be mistaken.
Multiple fields offer apprenticeships and, while they’re typically concentrated on younger people, you can apply at almost any age. You could end up working for less money than you’re on now – for the time being – but you’ll find yourself on the path to a rewarding career.
Apprenticeships For Mums To Consider
Health & Social Care
The first thing that comes to mind for many people wouldn’t be health and social care apprenticeships. They’ve become increasingly popular recently, as there’s an ongoing demand for more nurses and other medical professionals.
This can be a great option if you’re unable to attend university for a specific medical degree. You shouldn’t expect the apprenticeship to be short, however; they could last just as long as a typical degree. The benefit of this, however, is that you get much more on-the-job experience from the beginning.
That could help you decide whether or not the field is for you without investing years into a degree. Many of these are available through the NHS, while others are offered through private organizations.
Agriculture & Environment
If you want to leave a positive impact on the planet, then you might want to get into agricultural or environmental work. Many positions could require specialized degrees, however. Numerous others can be gotten with an apprenticeship.
These can vary from the more technical aspects to the more hands-on roles. That could give you various options, depending on what kind of position you want. Like many other fields, however, the length of these apprenticeships can vary drastically.
Some will take a year or two, while others could take much longer.
I.T. & Communications
Information technology has exploded in popularity in recent years. Though you’d expect that you’d need a degree for any position in this field, it isn’t required. Instead, you’ll simply need a few certificates, with these varying depending on the role. These can be easily earned once you’ve studied and learned enough.
An apprenticeship will help with that. Once you’ve gotten this certification, then you should see your career accelerate. The same can also be said of communications. While you’ll have to spend time learning how to use specific systems and software, the basics can be learned in months under the right supervision.
Wrapping Up
Throughout these apprenticeships, you should still earn money. That makes them a much more attractive job route than attending college for many people. If you have a family and want to switch careers, then this could be the more appropriate option.
Not only are you earning money, but you’re re-skilling and up-skilling. There’s little that isn’t attractive about pursuing an apprenticeship.
